ペロタンはこのたび、初開催となるアートフェア「Tokyo Gendai」に参加し、新進気鋭のアーティスト、マティルド・ドゥニーズとアリヨ・ト・ジョヨによる作品を展示いたします。
French artist Mathilde Denize (b.1986) presents a series of works that illustrates her experimental approach in both painting and sculpture. Her fluid paintings blend layers of subtle gestures and forms to express a fragmented present, somewhat like a riddle assembled of moving parts. These paintings dialogue and interact with her fabric sculptures, which are composed of her older paintings and discarded objects. Repurposing old canvases, she cuts, ties, sews, weaves, and paints them in unconventional ways to explore the residual shapes that emerge.
フランス人アーティスト、マティルド・ドゥニーズ（1986年生まれ）は、その実験的なアプローチを示す一連の絵画と立体作品を発表します。ドゥニーズが描く、抽象的なペインティングは、繊細なジェスチャーとフォルムを幾重にも重ね、まるで動的なパーツを組み合わせて創った謎解きかのように、断片化した現在を表現しています。これらの絵画は、ドゥニーズが過去に描いた絵画や廃棄されたオブジェクトを用いて制作したファブリック・スカルプチャーと対話し、相互作用します。ドゥニーズは古いキャンバスを再利用し、切り、結び、縫い、織り、型にはまらない手法で絵の具を施すことで、そこに現れる残余的な形を探求しているのです。
Alongside Denize’s fluid artworks, Californian artist Aryo Toh Djojo (b.1984) showcases his refined airbrushing technique in a new series of paintings. Toh Djojo's intimate encounters with the familiar seamlessly intertwine with those of an otherworldly nature. The artist adeptly combines elements of science fiction and satire, occasionally inserting iconic landmarks of Los Angeles as a backdrop. He blurs the boundary between photographic representation and a glimpse into the enigmatic realm where his conscious and subconscious intersect. This artistic fusion prompts viewers to question their perception, as they navigate the evocative landscapes that Toh Djojo meticulously constructs.
ドゥニーズの抽象的な作品と並んで、カリフォルニアのアーティスト、アリヨ・ト・ジョヨ（1984年生まれ）は、洗練されたエアブラシ技法を用いた一連の新作絵画を披露します。ト・ジョヨは、身近なものとの親密な関わりを、異世界的なものとシームレスに絡み合わせています。SFと風刺の要素を巧みに組み合わせ、ときにはロサンゼルスの象徴的なランドマークを背景にしながら、写真表現と、意識・潜在意識が交錯する謎めいた領域との境界を曖昧にしているのです。こうした芸術的な融合は、ト・ジョヨが綿密に構成した、示唆に富んだ風景へといざなうとともに、観る者に自らの知覚を疑うよう促します。

Mathilde Denize's practice is oriented towards painting, installation work, sculptural composition, performance, and video. Denize’s work is born from a desire to make meaning emerge from a fragmented present. A collector of discarded objects, she often cuts up her older paintings and then weaves them into new forms with found materials. Thus, new artworks are born from remnants of the past, a metaphor for the complicated existence of human beings. Inspired by great experimental artists, like Carolee Scheemann, she utilizes the body as much as the painting. Her garments, which often resemble a sexualized female form, act as both armor and camouflage. Her paintings are an open diary, punctuating and dialoguing with her sculptures. With subtle gestures, Denize constitutes a set of forgotten and anonymous forms, witnesses of a contemporary archeology.
Mathilde Denize has had solo exhibitions at Perrotin Paris (2023) and New York (2021); Centre d’Art Contemporain La Traverse, Alfortville (2022); FRAC Plateau Ile de France, Paris (2021), Fondation Ricard, Paris (2019) and Musée des Beaux-arts de Dole, Dole. She has participated in group exhibitions at Collection Lambert, Avignon (2022), Frac Picardie, Amien (2022) and Villa Medicis, Rome (2022) amongst others.

Aryo Toh Djojo studied at Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design (BFA, 2017). Toh Djojo employs an airbrushing technique as a central facet of his artistic process, skillfully incorporating principles of design, such as visual perspective, color theory, and an examination of the formal elements of art, to experiment and shape his paintings. Notably, he draws inspiration from the likes of Gerhard Richter, Vija Celmins, Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, and Richard Prince. Much of his oeuvre is situated within the urban fabric of Los Angeles, thus resonating with the city's distinct subcultures.
Aryo Toh Djojo has had solo exhibitions at Stems Gallery, Brussels (2022); Sow & Tailor, Los Angeles (2022); Art Luxembourg for Stems Gallery, Luxembourg (2021); Wilding Cran Gallery, Los Angeles (2021); Public Land, Sacramento (2021); and Weekend Gallery, Los Angeles (2018).
